Yırcalızade Şükrü Efendi

He is one of the Nationalist Forces who are known as 41 Flag Men who decided to fight by firing the torch of resistance in Balıkesir Alacamescit during the War of Independence.

The Yırcalı family, which has been in Balıkesir for three generations, settled in Balıkesir from the Yırca village, which was an Ottoman sanjak and is today a village in Soma. Yırcalızade Şükrü Efendi assumes important duties among the Committee of Union and Progress. Then he was among the pioneers of the Nationalist Forces Act in Balıkesir.

While Atatürk was on his way to Samsun, he established an action group called 41 Flag Men in Balıkesir. The Society of Rejection of Annex, established against the Greek, holds one of its biggest meetings in Balıkesir under the leadership of these people.

His son İbrahim Sıtkı Yırcalı acts as 9th, 10th and 11th Term Balıkesir Deputy, Balıkesir Senator and Ministry from Democrat Party.

His younger son Ahmet Sırrı Yırcalı was elected as a deputy for Balıkesir from the Democrat Party for two terms (10th and 11th terms) between 1954 and 1960.
